ICB Vice Chair to Retire
NHS Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board’s Vice Chair, Richard Wright MBE, has announced he will retire in November 2024. Previously a Non-Executive Director at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Richard was executive director of the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce for ten years, until 2020, following a career in private sector manufacturing in the metals sector.
Richard said: “It has been a pleasure to serve on the Board of the ICB, including as Acting Chair for ten months. The NHS is a complex system, and as part of the wider integrated care system it is clear that the ICB has made great strides in its two years of existence in understanding our role and priorities, for the benefit of the health of local people. There is always more to do, but I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge that being a Non-Executive Member has brought.”
“I have had a lifetime love of sailing and I have decided that while I am still young enough and fit enough, I will be buying a yacht and sailing the coasts of the UK and Europe for the next two years or more. I also have a strong desire to further research my family tree, the time feels right to make those steps and realise those goals.”
Dr Kathy McLean, ICB Chair, said: “I am very grateful to Richard for the dedication he has shown to the local NHS in recent years, not least for his stewardship of the ICB as Acting Chair during 2023 and 2024. Richard has brought a wealth of experience to the role, which has helped to guide the ICB. The NHS has some well-publicised challenges, and Richard has played an important role in the establishment of the ICB since its inception in July 2022, and in working through these challenges. I wish Richard well on his future pursuits.”
The ICB will be seeking to appoint and new Non Executive Member to its Board following a review of our Board and Committee assurance functions, and will provide further details in due course.
