Latest episode of Dr Kathy McLean’s Healthy Conversations podcast now available
The fourth episode of our podcast series Healthy Conversations with ICB Chair Dr Kathy McLean is now available.
The latest episode is a deep dive into our neighbourhood health model in Derby and Derbyshire.
Her guests this week are Dr Penny Blackwell, Chair and Clinical Director for Neighbourhood Health and Care, Derby and Derbyshire ICB and Jim Austin, CEO Derbyshire Community Health Services.
They discuss what is a neighbourhood and how the Team Up model works – which was recently referenced in the NHS 10-Year Plan as a great example of neighbourhood working. They also discuss other key parts of the neighbourhood model including urgent community response, severe frailty, falls and culture.
Jim says: “We want to give the power to communities because they have different assets and different needs. If we can’t get the relationships and trust right, we’re on a hiding to nothing.”
Penny says: “We need a workforce who have permission to think and act differently. It’s a different way of working seeking to influence across organisations and understand what matters to the person or group of people you’re working with. We also need to hear the citizen’s voice.”
Kathy says: “Clearly this is a really important area of health and there’s a huge focus. It’ll be interesting to see how this develops.”
In this podcast series, Kathy is talking to people working in a range of organisations across Derby and Derbyshire from hospitals to the local authority and voluntary sector. Kathy leads discussion on the challenges and opportunities of providing healthcare, what’s already working well and how best we can work together to improve our population’s health.
