Derbyshire Dales

Derbyshire Dales is a large, rural district council area, made up of small villages and historic market towns dispersed across the area. 80% of the population live in rural settlements. The main towns are Matlock, Ashbourne, Wirksworth and Bakewell and there are more than 100 villages.
Derbyshire Dales has a population of 71,681. 57% of the population is aged 16-64 years (41,837 people). 28% of the population is aged 65 years (19,926 people). 15% aged 0-15 years (10,659 people). Derbyshire Dale’s population is ageing, so that by 2043 it is estimated that 34.7% of the population (26,840 people) will be aged over 65 years. Overall, the health of the local population is good compared with the rest of Derbyshire and England. However, there are pockets of deprivation and health inequalities across the district, which are often masked in small area statistics.

Derbyshire Dales embodies partnership working at its best. The Place Alliance joined forces with the Local Health and Wellbeing Partnership, establishing an Integrated Group, with a real desire and commitment that continues to grow and develop to ensure that funding and opportunities are maximised, with true collaboration and authentic co-production remaining at the heart of what the group does.

As the emerging Neighbourhood Alliance model develops, the existing integrated approach will support and enable the Derbyshire Dales population to achieve their best outcomes. 90+ partners are engaged including representatives from the NHS, VCSE sector, Community Representatives, the District Council, the County Council, and the Peak District National Park Authority.
