Stakeholder Statement on Buxton Hospital Outpatient Services
NHS Derby and Derbyshire ICB, the body responsible for commissioning health services to meet local need, has been in discussion with Stockport Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since the Trust’s announcement of proposed changes to outpatient services in Buxton, with the potential relocation of some services to Stepping Hill Hospital.
Whilst understanding the financial constraints currently facing all NHS organisations, as well as the need to transform outpatient services in line with the NHS 10 Year Plan, the ICB had significant concerns about the proposals, including the planning processes and stakeholder engagement that had been undertaken prior to the announcement.
The ICB is pleased to report that there have been constructive discussions with Stockport Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and any proposals are currently on hold while the necessary processes and engagement are undertaken. This includes confirmation of a detailed business case to outline the rationale for the plans, the completion of impact assessments, and the need to assess the level of patient and public involvement required ahead of any decisions being made to change service provision, in line with the legal duties for NHS organisations.
The ICB will continue discussions with Stockport Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and will provide a further update in due course.
