If you have been struggling with pain for more than 12 weeks there are many services and support groups for you in Derby and Derbyshire.

GP practice support

Many GP practice teams support people who are living with long term pain.

Your GP practice team can support you, through:

  • advice and support from your GP
  • a “live well with pain” group, if they have one
  • coaching, advice and signposting from their health and wellbeing coaches and social prescribers

Long term conditions support services

Live Life Better Derbyshire and Livewell Derby support people in Derbyshire county and Derby city to lose weight, get fitter, stop smoking, improve their health and manage pain.

Hospital pain management services

A wide range of advice and support is available on University Hospitals of Derby and Burton Pain Management Department‘s webpages. Team members are experienced in the assessment and management of a wide range of chronic pain conditions, and are committed to provide a safe, compassionate and supportive environment for our patients and their loved ones.

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton run a training programme called the Escape Pain Programme.

This is designed to help people with osteoarthritis and/or chronic joint pain self-manage their condition.

The course is run by the group rehabilitation department at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital and includes 12 sessions across six weeks.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital Chronic Pain Management Service is provided by a multi-professional team comprising of consultant anaesthetists, nurses, psychologists, physiotherapists, administrative and care staff all working as a team to help support people who are dealing with long term pain.

Hospital physiotherapy services

University Hospitals Derby and Burton has various locations for inpatient and outpatient physiotherapy services, offering a wide variety of different services dependent on your needs. You may be seen by a physiotherapist as an inpatient on the ward, or referred by you consultant or GP for outpatient treatment.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital provides a range of in and out-patient services for adults and children. The musculo-skeletal outpatient services can be accessed following a visit to your GP surgery or by filling out their on-line self referral form.  

Derbyshire Community Health Services‘ physiotherapy service can help you with conditions and symptoms affecting bones, muscles, nerves or joints. If you are aged 18 years and over you can refer yourself into the physiotherapy service by telephone or by using the online self-referral form on their website.

Mental health services

The NHS can support your emotional health and wellbeing in many different ways, including speaking directly to a Talking Therapy service about how you are feeling.

You can self-refer to local Talking Therapy services get help to manage issues such as depression, low mood, anxiety, stress or panic.

The NHS Derby and Derbyshire Emotional Health and Wellbeing website has been designed collaboratively by professionals who work across Derby and Derbyshire to help plan and deliver care and support for people who are feeling stressed, anxious or depressed, or just want to feel happier.

Community Action Derby

Community Action Derby is a registered charity providing support and guidance for voluntary and community groups.

Erewash Voluntary Action

Erewash Signposting Service provided by Erewash Voluntary Action provides information and a referral route into the health and care voluntary & community sector; helping people to receive services in their community, they would have otherwise struggled to find out about. The service helps to combat social isolation, supports wellbeing, helps people to remain independent and helps them to remain living at home as a valued member of their local community.

Mind Derbyshire

Derbyshire Mind works with local people and organisations to deliver mental wellbeing services that benefit local people and communities.

Derby City Life Links

Life Links believe that people who have lived experience of mental ill health are well positioned to encourage recovery in others. That’s why they promote a range of peer social groups, where you can meet like minded people and share mutual support.

Belper Self Help Group – Depression and Anxiety at Belper Community Cottage.

The group provides mutual support encouragement and reassurance in an informal and friendly setting for those experiencing depression, anxiety and its related problems. Family, friends, parents, carers are also welcome. office@belpercommunitycottage.co.uk
