NHS Derby and Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group (DDCCG) commissions adult ADHD assessments from Sheffield Adult Autism and Neurodevelopmental Service (SAANS) and the Birmingham and Solihull NHS Trust.

This provision has historically demonstrated to be sufficient in terms of managing the number of referrals received within the expected population prevalence and providing assessments within a reasonable timeframe.

There has been a national increase in the amount of people being referred for an adult ADHD assessment over the last 18 months. This increase has significantly impacted on the waiting times experienced by Derbyshire patients and Birmingham and Solihull NHS Trust took the decision to stop accepting out of area referrals to prioritise their increased local activity, meaning that all Derby and Derbyshire CCG referrals are now being triaged by SAANS.

DDCCG Adult ADHD Assessment Clinical Guidance

The following clinical guidance is designed to assist and support primary care clinical decision making when considering referring patients for an Adult ADHD assessment to an on-line diagnostic provider under the choice agenda.

Information and advice has been sought from the Clinical and Professional Reference Group and Joint Area Prescribing Committee and has been fully considered when completing this supplementary guidance. It is designed to complement national guidance on Choice and Mental Health as updated in April 2021.  Final approval of the guidance was made by the Clinical and Lay Commissioning Committee on the 9th September 2021.
