Sarah Moss

Head of Cancer and Diagnostics

In November 2024, I joined NHS Derby and Derbyshire ICB in the role of Head of Cancer & Diagnostics. It has been my honour to work in the NHS for many years and I have held various patient-facing and administrative roles, beginning my career in Medical Records. This foundational role allowed me to gain a comprehensive understanding of the referral pathway and the importance of a positive patient experience.

Throughout my career, I have progressed through numerous positions, culminating in senior leadership roles. In 2014, I joined Queens Hospital Burton as Head of Complaints, PALS, Patient Experience, Bereavement, Voluntary Services, and the Help Desk. Following the Trust’s merger in 2019, I returned to the Royal Derby, where I served as Deputy General Manager in Trauma & Orthopaedics, later advancing to General Manager. Most recently, I held the position of General Manager in Maternity, Gynaecology, and GUM.

My personal mantra has always been to put the patient at the heart of all decisions, supporting the highest standard of patient care and treatment and remembering to look after those around the patient also.  The workforce in the NHS is hardworking, dedicated and skilled and now, by moving to the commissioning arm of the NHS, my new role will allow me a unique opportunity to consolidate my years of experience of working in the acute provider, to now work with teams to support our local population and communities in a different way to deliver the goals of the NHS Long Term plan as well as building on the improvement and transformation opportunities our new CDC’s offer for diagnostics.

I have experience of working in Nursing and Quality, Primary Care and evaluating and measuring the performance of services to ensure patients receive the best care and treatment.

Sian Sumner

Commissioning Manager, Cancer, NHS Derby & Derbyshire ICB

Within the team my role is Commissioning Manager for Cancer. I have over 20 years NHS experience working in secondary care prior to joining Derby & Derbyshire ICB. Working within cancer services is hugely rewarding and knowing that I can make a positive difference drives me to seek out new challenges and promote quality improvement for both patients and staff.

Jenny Pickard

GP Lead, Cancer, NHS Derby and Derbyshire ICB

I am a Derbyshire GP and work in a local practice 2 days a week. I have always had an active interest in cancer in terms of diagnosis, management and prevention since working in cancer clinical research prior to undertaking my medical training. I also have an enthusiasm for population based public health medicine.

I am passionate about improving patients’ cancer journeys and my role as cancer lead GP for Derby and Derbyshire ICB is invaluable for supporting a link between primary and secondary care colleagues to enable ongoing service development and improvement. I am always happy to receive any questions or comment via my NHS email.

Abimbola Odunjo

GP Lead, Cancer, NHS Derby and Derbyshire ICB

As a General Practitioner, I dedicate three days each week to serving the Derbyshire community at a local surgery. My commitment extends beyond general care; I am deeply invested in enhancing cancer management through proactive prevention, thorough screening, prompt diagnosis, and effective treatment strategies. Personal experiences with relatives who have battled cancer have given me intimate insight into the profound impact this disease can have on lives.

In my role as the Cancer Lead GP for the Integrated Care Board, I aim to bridge the gap between primary and secondary care, a synergy that promises substantial benefits for patient outcomes.
