How to find an NHS dentist for routine care
Use the NHS website to find an NHS dentist for routine care. Please note that dentists themselves provide the information for this website. The information is therefore regularly being updated. If you cannot find a local NHS dentist and are able to travel, you may find it worthwhile ringing dentists further afield to check whether they are accepting NHS patients.
Urgent, emergency and out of hours dental treatment
If you don’t have an NHS dentist or your registered dentist can’t see you for urgent treatment you can call NHS 111, or use the NHS 111 website. They will work to find somewhere you’re able to travel to.
NHS 111 can also advise on pain management while you’re waiting to receive treatment.

Oral health and self-care
Looking after your oral health is important and it’s not just about keeping your teeth looking nice. Oral health can have an impact on a wide range of different issues for you and your family, including nutrition, school attendance, sleep patterns and general health and wellbeing too.

About accessing an NHS dentist
Registering at a Dental Practice for NHS treatment is not the same as registering at a General Practice.
Unlike your local GP surgery, Dentists will see patients for NHS treatment (if they have availability to do so) regardless of where you live.
Also unlike a local GP surgery, Dentists are not required to hold a “list” of patients who are “registered” and therefore able to receive care.
Many dental practices do maintain a list of NHS patients they invite for checkups and treatment but they are not required to do this.
NHS Derby and Derbyshire is working with local dentists to make treatment from NHS dentists available for local people
