NHS Derby and Derbyshire funds the Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service for patients across Derbyshire. The service is operated by East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) who assess your eligibility during the booking process to ensure there is a medical need for a Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service journey.

Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service has adopted existing regional and national eligibility criteria for patients who live and are registered with a GP in Derbyshire. As resources are limited and focussed on patients with the most need, there is an eligibility criteria set out nationally and must be met in order to access the service. If you are in receipt of a higher rate enhanced mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payments (PIP), you will no longer be eligible and will need to make alternative arrangements.

For booking please call EMAS Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service booking line: 0300 300 3434. Bookings can only be arranged no more than 7 days before the actual appointment day. We appreciate your help to ensure the service is used wisely and responsibly.  If you no longer require transport or it has been amended, please call 0300 300 3434 to notify EMAS. This is to ensure the crew and resources could be used instead to assist a patient waiting elsewhere.

EMAS has created a set of frequently asked questions to help, but if you are still unsure then please contact: http://www.emas.nhs.uk/your-service/patient-transport-service/
