Eid al-Fitr 2024

Eid al-Fitr is a religious festival for all Muslims around the world. Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Eid al Fitr is Allah’s reward for believers who fasted during the holy month of Ramadan. It’s also a way to thank Allah for giving them the chance and the strength to carry out his commands during the blessed month of Ramadan.

The name “Eid al-Fitr” translates as “the festival of the breaking of the fast”. Eid al-Fitr 2024 is set to arrive this week, with the moon playing a big part in the Islamic festival.

In the Islamic calendar, the sighting of the new crescent moon marks the start of the month. At the time of writing, Eid is expected to fall on either April 10 or 11 in the UK.

Fasting is important for Muslims during Ramadan as it allows them to devote themselves to their faith and come closer to Allah, or God. It was originated by the Prophet Muhammad, and is celebrated for one to three days, depending on the country. After Ramadan, fasting is forbidden on the Day of Eid.

What happens at Eid?

Many Muslims will attend Eid prayers at their mosque early in the morning.

It’s traditional to wear new clothes and, on the way to the mosque, to eat something sweet, such as a date.

In many countries, Eid al-Fitr is a public holiday – many people enjoy large meals with friends and family.

It’s also common to give money to children and younger members of the family.
