Update on Vasectomy Services
Vasectomy services in Derbyshire are provided by Derbyshire Community Health Services (DCHS). During autumn 2025, DCHS paused new referrals onto its waiting list. This meant that while existing patients continued to receive treatment, no new patients could be added at that time. This decision was taken because the service had reached its full capacity for the 2025/26 year.
Since the start of the new financial year (2026/27), the ICB has been working closely with partners to put in place funding and arrangements to improve access to the service. We are pleased to confirm that, subject to final approvals:
- Funding has now been identified and agreed across the Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire ICB cluster. This will allow DCHS to clear the current waiting list, reopen access for new patients, and increase the number of procedures carried out each year by around 100 in order to meet local demand for this service.
- The proposed changes have been reviewed and supported by the ICB’s Quality and Equality Impact Assessment panel.
A small number of contractual details are still being finalised. These will be considered by the Joint Commissioning Executive Group on 11 May. If approved, work to implement the new arrangements will begin straight away.
Overall, these changes will help improve access to the service and reduce waiting times for patients in Derbyshire.
