Derbyshire wins big at the 2024 Care Awards
Health Innovation East Midlands announced the winners of the 2024 Care Awards at an event in March.
The winners, across six categories, were shining examples of care provided in Care Homes and in people’s homes across the region, and some of these remarkable awards recognised the services provided in Derbyshire:
Care Home Support Team of the Year
Award Winner: Forget Me Not Team – Ashfields Care Home
The forget me not team bring a high level of support, care, compassion and fun to those at the home who live with dementia. Training and experience means a high level of knowledge to support those with dementia and residents, family and health professionals comment that the support and activities that are personalised are second to none. They have the trust of their residents and are totally focussed on enhancing their lives, seeing this not as a job but caring for those they love.
Care Home Manager of the Year
Award Winner: Malik Mandani – Langdale Heights
Malik’s journey into the world of care began during the challenging times of the pandemic. Recognising that the success of the home is dependent on its people, he has instilled a sense of confidence and dedication in the team. Through mentoring and ongoing support, he has created an environment where each team member feels valued and motivated to deliver exemplary service.
Home Care Provider of the Year
Highly Commended: Golden Years Support Services
Golden years have a strong emphasis on training and all staff are also end of life trained. The managers go above and beyond to support their teams and service users and particularly celebrate events such as Christmas where all service users are visited by Santa and his elves to deliver them a present.
Award Winner: Bespoke Care and Training
The management team put training at the heart of their work with real emphasis on care planning and end of life care. Staff go above and beyond to get to know the specific needs and wants of their clients, be it hairdressing, liaising with health professionals or staying with clients who are distressed. The management team ensure that these acts of kindness are recognised and rewarded. Knowing their clients so well ensures a high level of trust from both clients and their families.
Care Home of the Year
Highly Commended: Bankwood Care Home
On a day-to-day basis, Bankwood feels warm and welcoming. Staff attitude is excellent and nothing is ever too much trouble. The leadership is second to none and the staff team clearly work well together with the sole focus to provide person centred care for everyone, tailoring their support to each individual accordingly. The happy environment enhances the experience for everyone but most importantly for the residents who live there providing a true home from home.
Highly Commended: Brookfields Private Nursing Home
Staff take part in activities alongside the residents, everyone has fun together. Long standing staff members provide a familiar friendly face to our residents which provides comfort and trust. We keep our residents ‘and relatives up to date with news and activities via the weekly Brookfields Bulletin and monthly Brookfields Banter. We support our staff with a shoe scheme. Regular activities include coach trips. For those destinations that are too far away, they arrange themed ‘holidays abroad’ where a video tour is watched and source food and drink from the country while displaying flags and other related items. We are also involved within the local community.
