Update to community audiology services in Derby and Derbyshire
From April 2026, community audiology services will no longer be provided by Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
NHS community audiology services will still be available, and will now be delivered in the community by five providers.

NHS community audiology includes hearing tests, advice, hearing aids and ongoing support and follow-up care for adults.
Chesterfield Royal Hospital are still providing audiology services for patients with more complex hearing losses and additional audiological symptoms, Eg Tinnitus.
You will get the same service across all the providers, and there are multiple locations for you to choose from, based on what suits you best.
If you need to self‑refer to audiology services, please visit our audiology services page, where you will find more information and details of the community providers.
If you currently receive care from Chesterfield Royal Hospital, or if you are on the waiting list, you will continue to receive your care from the hospital until your treatment is complete. After this point, you will be directed to a new community provider.
If you are partway through your treatment and need a new assessment due to changes in your hearing, or if you have a newly identified issue, you will be referred to a new provider.

No. Community audiology services are still available, and you can be seen at one of many locations across Derby and Derbyshire. This is a change of provider only.
I am on the waiting list at Chesterfield Royal Hospital — what happens now?
If you are already on Chesterfield Royal Hospital’s waiting list, you will continue to receive your audiology care from them.
I’m partway through my 3‑year after‑care pathway with Chesterfield Royal Hospital. Will my care stop?
No. Chesterfield Royal Hospital will continue to support you for the remainder of your treatment. If you need further care after your treatment has finished, you will need to move to a new provider. When you come to the end of your current pathway or need an assessment due to changes in your hearing, or if you have a newly identified hearing loss issue, you will be seen by a new provider.
If you are over the age of 55, no GP referral is necessary, and you can self-refer directly through the provider’s own website. People under 55 will need a referral from their GP.

Can I still get batteries or repairs for my hearing aids from Chesterfield Royal Hospital ?
Chesterfield Royal Hospital will not provide ongoing community audiology support after the end of your 3‑year pathway. Some hearing aids may require reassessment depending on compatibility, and your new provider will advise you.
