Derbyshire stands down critical incident

The Derbyshire health and care system has taken the decision to stand down the critical incident as of 16:00 hours on Thursday 12 January that was initially declared at 14.32 hours on Saturday 31 December 2022. This is after identified actions had been deployed and reductions in pressure across some services has been seen. However, services remain under sustained and significant pressure and patients and members of the public continue to be asked to use services wisely to ensure those patients with the greatest need can access care and support.

Important update on planned RCN industrial action

Members of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) have voted to take industrial action at the majority of NHS Trusts across England, including two Trusts serving Derby and Derbyshire: Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust (DCHS) and Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (DHCFT). The industrial action relates to levels of pay and patient safety concerns.

The health and care system’s strategic command agreed earlier this week that Critical Incident status will continue to be declared until at least Thursday 12th January, to ensure service pressure and coordination of care response can be monitored during and beyond today’s planned industrial action by ambulance service workers who are members of the GMB Union. The health and care system’s strategic command yesterday agreed that Critical Incident status will continue to be declared until at least Thursday 12th January, to ensure service pressure and coordination of care response can be monitored during and beyond Wednesday’s planned industrial action by ambulance service workers who are members of the GMB Union. Derbyshire continues to declare a critical incident

The Derbyshire health and care system saw new levels of demand for services during the Christmas bank holiday period and this has continued with pressure on services rising as we moved towards the New Year bank holiday weekend.  As a result of this, a critical incident was declared to help prioritise and maintain safe services for patients and this decision was taken at 14.32 hours on 31st December 2022. A critical incident continues to be declared as of 16:00 hours on Friday 6 January 2023.

Health and Care System remains under pressure ahead of New Year

The Derbyshire health and care system saw new levels of demand for services during the Christmas bank holiday period and this has continued with pressure on services still increasing as we move towards the New Year bank holiday weekend. Our system is working together to manage this steep rise in demand across all services from people contacting NHS 111 or going to their GP, to those coming into our Urgent Treatment Centres or being brought by ambulance into our Emergency Departments. We are also seeing an impact on our social care system which means that we cannot always discharge patients at the time they become medically fit to leave because of pressure on the services that care for people outside of hospital.
