The Children’s Hearing Service accepts referrals for children from 0-16 years (up to 19 years in the case of young people with complex needs). Children with hearing loss (permanent or temporary) and children with syndromes associated with hearing loss are monitored by the service. The service has a suite of three testing rooms at Chesterfield Royal Hospital; one is a purpose-built soundproof room. The Service also have a soundproof room facility at Buxton Health Centre.

Derby Deaf Services Team
The Deaf Services Team is a specialist social work service for Deaf and Deafblind people. The team works with Deaf children who communicate through British Sign Language (BSL) or spoken English and Deaf adults whose first or preferred language is BSL. The team also works with Deafblind adults and children.

Identifying and Reporting Abuse or Neglect
Adults suffering from abuse and neglect can be harmed by someone they know. They may be unable to report it because of disability, illness or being afraid.
Abuse can happen in the adult’s home or in a care establishment. Keeping people safe from abuse and neglect is everyone’s business.

Police Link Officers for Deaf People (PLOD)
Derbyshire Constabulary has specially trained officers, called PLOD officers, who can help bridge the communications gap between the Force’s services and the Deaf community. These officers use their skills in providing a service for non-emergency situations when communication support is required, such as:
- Providing assistance at a police station front desk .
- Assisting in the custody area whilst waiting for the services of an interpreter.
- Offering communication support and advice at a scene of a crime.

Diabetes Education Programmes
The Diabetes Education service in Derby and Derbyshire offers support for individuals with type 2 diabetes through two education programs: X-PERT Diabetes and Diabetes and You. Both programs, led by trained NHS Diabetes Educators, provide group education to help participants learn to self-manage their diabetes. X-PERT Diabetes is a six-week course available online or in-person, covering topics such as diet, medication, and physical activity. Diabetes and You is a shorter, half-day course offered at local centers, suitable for those diagnosed with type 2 diabetes within the last five years and not taking insulin.

This service is for children and young people under the age of 18 who have been raped or sexually assaulted, regardless of when the incident occurred. It also supports young people over the age of 18 with learning difficulties, as the service is often well-suited to their needs.

Derbyshire Community Health Services Musculoskeletal Service
The service is designed to ensure that individuals with musculoskeletal problems, such as back pain, neck pain, and other joint issues, receive the appropriate treatment in the right place and at the right time. Adults aged 18 and over can self-refer for an assessment with the Musculoskeletal Therapy team.

Pharmacy First
The new advanced service involves pharmacists providing advice and NHS-funded treatment, where clinically appropriate, plus for seven common conditions:
– Sinusitis
– Sore throat
– Earache
– Infected insect bite
– Impetigo
– Shingles
– Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) in womenConsultations can be provided to patients presenting to the pharmacy as well as those referred by NHS 111, general practices and others.
