Mental Health Awareness Week

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, a national annual UK event run by the Mental Health Foundation to help increase people’s awareness about mental health, tackle stigma, and provide information to help prevent mental health problems from developing.

Taking place from 13th to 19th May 2024, the theme of this year’s Mental Health Awareness week is ‘moving more for our mental health‘.

Research shows that taking part in regular physical activity improves mental health and quality of life, however it is estimated that over a third of UK adults do not meet the recommended amount of activity.

In support of Mental Health Awareness week, your JUCD Wellbeing team is highlighting a range of physical activity sessions available on the Spring Wellbeing Timetable, designed to get you moving more to promote wellbeing.

Sessions are delivered virtually and/or face to face and many of the sessions are recorded to support those who are not able to attend at a set time.

Virtual physical activity classes, delivered weekly include:

Yoga, Body Conditioning, Full Body Workout, Hip Health, Shoulder Health, Legs, Bums and Tums, Zumba, Bodyweight Circuits, Mobilise and Stretch, Pilates, Kettlebells plus a Funky Disco for those wanting a fun and social fitness session.

The team also run a range of in-person clubs which take place across various JUCD locations. These include: Women’s Football, Run Club Derby, Salsa, Table Tennis, and Zumba Fitness

All support sessions are provided FREE for JUCD colleagues, and they are designed to suit all levels and abilities with options and modifications offered to suit.

Alongside support for physical wellbeing, the Wellbeing Timetable also offers a comprehensive range of workshops, webinars, courses, and dedicated colleague-support cafes to support mental health.
